Tola is a playful child. He lives in a rented room near the former dump site, where the poorest people are located and make their daily living by collecting and selling trash.

His parents are divorced, and he is living with his mother and older sister. His mom works in a garment factory and her salary is too low to support the family, so she also works as a dishwasher in a restaurant in the evening to make more income. His father doesn't come to see him or financially support him or his sister.

Tola has a good relationship with his sister and other children in the community. He and his sister stay at home while their mother works in the evening until midnight. His dream is to be a Policeman when he grows up.

*UPDATE: Tola's desire to be a policeman may have been influenced by a desire to protect his young sister who was raped a couple of years ago. The sister is now in our program.

Sponsorship is the only way to ensure Tola that he receives a good education so he is able to end the cycle of poverty in his family and achieve his dream.

* It is the desire and intention of HFSV for these sponsorships to extend until the child's highest level of schooling is completed. This provides the best possible pathway forward to achieving the child's dreams while also breaking any cycle of poverty and vulnerability. It also fosters incredible relationships between the child and the Sponsor or Sponsor family.
