Linda Mitchell

Acrylic, fabric, wood, beads, found objects on stretched canvas

24" x 32"

About the Artist: Linda Mitchell is an American artist whose mixed media animal paintings and installations have
been featured in over 20 solo exhibitions at museums in the United States.
She was born in Atlanta, Georgia in a family that nurtured her early interest in both animals and
making art. Her mother bred cocker spaniels, and Mitchell was encouraged by a great-aunt
who taught music, art and drama. As a child, she started painting, making animal figures, and
sewing, all of which informed her work as a mature artist.
She received a BFA from UGA, and 2 MFAs from GSU in painting and sculpture. In graduate
school she developed a visual language combining her painted and sculptural imagery,
resulting in mixed media paintings and installations that are complex and dream-like. The
artist's intuitive approach allows poetic meaning to emerge from the highly textural layering of
painted and other diverse materials
