The Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes, France in 1858.
Bernadette, a 14-year-old peasant girl, reported seeing a "Lady" in the cave of Massabielle.. The "Lady" appeared 18 times that year., her message includes the importance of prayer, penance, humility, mercy, and compassion.

Beginning in the spring of 1916, three shepherd children -Lina dos Santos, Francisc,o and Jacinta Marto- reported three apparitions of an Angel and on May 13, 1917, in Cova da Iria, six apparitions of the Blessed Mother were reported.
