What do Bluegrass music, Bourbon and a Horse Race in May have in common? A Kentucky Derby Party! Only this is better!
Your hosts will bring you all the music, food and festivities of Churchill Downs to Store Creek on Edisto. You will be greeted with your choice of a race day signature Mint Julep or Kentucky Oaks Lily. Once you have imbibed in the "spirits of the race" open bar is available for drinks of your choice. Next, slide out to the porch and enjoy a performance from Edisto's own Gapfillers Band. Culinary treats will be served up as you enjoy visiting with your friends at our home located creek side in Sunny Side Plantation. The big screen TV will be tuned to the excitement as the horses line up for the Run for the Roses - the most exciting two minutes in sports. The race begins at 6:45pm; so, before horses enter the gates, be sure to join in on several chances to win a pot for first, second and even last place finishes.

Bay Creek Cruise to a Louisiana Crawfish Boil! Enjoy a creek cruise from the Marina at Edisto beach to Linda and Kevin Steele's house on Big Bay Creek.
The Steeles will host you at their beautiful Edisto Beach home with amazing views of Bay Creek. Enjoy a casual crawfish boil cooked by a Louisiana expert. Beer and wine as well! Sunsets on Bay Creek are amazing this time of year! You will cruise back to the marina after this amazing dinner.

Enjoy a birding tour of the famous Bear Island WMA birding hotspot with world-renowned ornithologist Dr. Sid Gauthreaux. This experience is for beginner bird watchers as well as the advanced birder who want to share some time with a man who became fascinated with avian interactions as a young boy. Sid will take you to the locations on Bear Island that he loves to try and spot our feathered friends that are less often accessible or more rarely seen. He knows all the hot spots, and has all the knowledge to make this outing one you will not soon forget. At the conclusion of the morning adventure, the group will enjoy a picnic lunch next door at the McKenzie Field Station at Bennett's Point, while going over the full list of all the birds encountered during this wonderful outing.

EIOLT Executive Director John Girault and his wife Anne have partnered again with Steamboat Creek Oyster Farm to co-host a this fourth annual special lunch at their Edisto home. Located in a beautiful enclave at the end of the Middleton neighborhood, they have carved out a little island paradise that is perfect for a party with their Land Trust friends.
Enjoy amazing local oysters on the half shell fresh from Steamboat Creek, plus roasted local oysters, all served with delightful French champagne and additional brunch fare and cocktails.

Ted is your sommelier for the evening, presenting attendees history and tidbits about the evenings wines while Thad pours at the pouring station. The evening starts with celebratory champagne to cleanse the palate, then proceeds with the tasting of selected red and white wines. The evening concludes with a light meal of beef tenderloin, parmesan potatoes, roasted vegetables and dessert with wines from the cellar of Johanna and Ted.

May is National Preservation Month; celebrate with a behind-the-scenes tour of recent preservation projects at the Hutchinson House! Hutchinson House Director, Sarah Stroud Clarke will discuss the preservation philosophy driving the restoration and how we make preservation decisions at the Hutchinson House,. She'll explain the science behind paint analysis, and walk you through the newly restored historic elements. You will also view a display of archaeological artifacts excavated from around the property. Guaranteed to be a fun and educational morning.
