Enjoy a two-hour deep dive tour with your guide, Edisto Island African American Historian/Author, Greg Estevez. Greg is the great-great grandson of Henry Hutchinson, and has discovered an abundance of Edisto history that is rarely told. Come hear stories that have been passed down for generations highlighting the African American history and culture on Edisto Island. This guided tour will give attendees personal insight on the Hutchinson House and the Seaside Colored School that are on the National Registry of Historical Places. Begin this informative tour at this historic Hutchinson House, where Greg will give you an up-close and personal perspective told from a descendant of the Hutchinson Family. Then enjoy a stop at the historic Seaside school house, now located on Store Creek, that has been renovated into a lovely Edisto cottage. Dessert and refreshments will be enjoyed at the conclusion of this tour.

Beulah is an historic waterfront property facing Frampton's Inlet and the Atlantic Ocean. Located at the end of the beautiful Botany Bay Road, the rustic cottage has 3 bedrooms and additional bunk beds, a large wrap around porch with magnificent views. Access to kayaks for paddling to Eddingsville Beach or Shell Island! Formerly known as Mead's Landing, and for a while as Wilkinson's Landing, the property has a fascinating history and is the site of Hephzibah Jenkins Townsend's famous tabby oven ruins. Townsend was the the owner of Bleak Hall and Sea Cloud Plantations (now known together as Botany Bay) and the cottage's name "Beulah" is from a biblical description meaning "Land of Hephzibah". Hephzibah is a well known historical figure on Edisto Island who used the proceeds from her large baked goods operation to fund the construction and founding of the First Missionary Baptist Church in 1818. The historic cottage, which the current owners have restored, was actually moved to the site in 1915. The home was dismantled into two pieces, each being put on a barge and floated down the South Edisto River, up St. Pierre Creek, and then up Store Creek to Mrs. Wilkinson's home place known as Dill Farm. Dill Farm was located on HWY-174 across from where the Old Post Office Restaurant now stands. Once the two pieces arrived they were loaded on carts and pulled by oxen down Botany Bay Road to the home's current location and reassembled onto the very tabby foundation Hephzibah Jenkins Townsend had constructed in the early 1800's!

Enjoy a birding tour of the famous Bear Island WMA birding hotspot with world-renowned ornithologist Dr. Sid Gauthreaux. Sid will take you to the locations on Bear Island that he loves to try and spot our feathered friends that are less often accessible or more rarely seen. May is National Preservation Month; celebrate with a behind-the-scenes tour of recent preservation projects at the Hutchinson House! Hutchinson House Director, Sarah Stroud Clarke will discuss the preservation philosophy driving the restoration and how we make preservation decisions at the Hutchinson House,. Looking for a unique Edisto experience? This turtle night walk is for you! Edisto Beach State Park is one of the few areas in SC that is permitted by SCDNR to lead educational sea turtle night walks. The loggerhead sea turtle is a beautiful visitor to our South Carolina coast. Our program explores the life cycle of the sea turtle, challenges to conservation, and how you can help save our state reptile. Following an indoor presentation, participants will go on a 3-mile guided nighttime beach walk for a chance to witness a nesting loggerhead sea turtle.

Photography, of any form, is not permitted. Red flashlights lights will be provided by the park. For ages 11 and up, only.
Bring: bug spray, water, comfortable walking shoes that may get wet. The walk will go on if there is rain; the program may be rescheduled if there is lightning in the vicinity at the time of the walk.
