In February 2016, the Winder Housing Authority transformed a piece of local history by purchasing the former Winder-Barrow Middle School, which had been vacant since 2013. Located in the heart of the Glenwood neighborhood, this once-abandoned building was reimagined as the Wimberly Center for Community Development-a hub for community growth and collaboration. Later that year, Winder was selected as one of only 27 communities nationwide to receive the prestigious Local Foods, Local Places award. This initiative provided technical support to integrate local food systems into the city's development strategy. Wimberly's Roots emerged from this initiative, serving as a cornerstone for our community's efforts to promote food security, sustainability, and nutrition education.This charming collection includes:
