Project Title: Project-Based Math
Category: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
Funding Amount Requested: $500
Project Description:
To support our geometry unit after state testing, we create a city where students learn to measure, analyze angles, and explore different shapes. This project is split among 94 students and requires significant supplies such as wood, fabric, and adhesive. Project-based learning is highly engaging for students, but difficult to fund in small districts like ours. Last year, I personally funded many of the materials, including fabric, adhesive, cars, and decorations for the city. Our school could only cover the wood and cardboard, and unfortunately, many families are unable to provide additional supplies. Without external funding, this project may not continue.

Impact:
This project-based approach to learning engages students in real-world applications of geometry. The hands-on nature of building a city allows students to explore geometric concepts while fostering creativity and teamwork. This project helps make math tangible and exciting, but it requires adequate resources to be successful. Without funding, we won't be able to provide the necessary materials to continue this impactful learning experience for our 4th graders.
Use of Funds:
- Wood: $50
- Paint: $30
- Fabric: $50
- Adhesive: $30
