Project Title: Scientists in Search of iPads
Category: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
Funding Amount Requested: $1,900
Project Description:
Giving my students access to iPads for data collection and analysis will enhance their critical thinking skills and improve their ability to apply learned concepts. Apps like Albedo: A Reflectance App and CODAP will help students collect data points and create graphs to analyze phenomena such as polar ice melting over time. Many of my students come from a low-income, rural district where such tools are not readily available. Providing these resources will not only improve their learning experience but could also inspire future careers in STEM fields. As their teacher, I aim to make a lasting difference by equipping them with the tools they need to succeed.

Impact:
Currently, my students only have access to Chromebooks, which limits our ability to use specific data collection tools like the Albedo app, available only on Apple devices. This app allows students to gather real-time comparison data, building their math and critical thinking skills. By providing these tools, we will enhance learning outcomes and offer students an experience that could shape their future academic and career paths.
Use of Funds:
The amount requested will purchase 11 iPad minis from Best Buy at approximately $170 each, for a total of $1,870. The remaining $30 will cover any additional costs or fees. These iPads will be used in lab partner groups for data collection and analysis in science lessons.
