Project Description:
Steven Manis, a teacher at Grand Mesa Choice Academy in Delta, CO, is seeking funding to purchase VEX robotics starter kits for his high school students. GMCA serves 100 "at-risk" students who often face challenges that prevent success in traditional academic settings. Most of these students will not attend college but are inclined to pursue technical careers. This project will provide hands-on learning opportunities in robotics and programming, opening doors to potential technical employment for students who otherwise may not have such experiences.
Project Proposal:
The "HS Robotics and Programming" project will introduce students at GMCA to the world of robotics, providing them with VEX V5 robotic starter kits. These kits will allow students to build, program, and test robots to complete various tasks. Over 40 classroom hours, students will work in teams of four to design, maintain, and program robots that will compete in both driver-controlled and programmed skill contests. This experience will teach students valuable STEM skills-science, technology, engineering, and math-while also preparing them for technical jobs that involve automation, hardware, and software integration.
Budget Narrative:
VEX Robotics Starter Kits: $1,578 (for two kits)
Additional shipping costs will be covered within the remaining budget.
