Project Title: Dynamite Decoding

Category: Literacy

Funding Amount Requested: $2,000

Project Description:
Eaton Elementary School is located in Eaton, Colorado, about 10 miles north of Greeley. Our school services students who need language acquisition skills, support for special needs, and low-income families. This project will impact and empower our students by providing decodable books-books with controlled text designed to help students become more fluent readers-into their hands. These books extend lessons and give students direct application and practice of the phonics skills they are learning.

Impact:
We are a Title 1 school, and 25% of our population is on a READ plan, which means these students have a significant reading deficiency and require intensive interventions. Receiving this grant would allow us to put actual decodable books in students' hands, reinforcing their phonics, reading, and comprehension skills. Students see themselves as readers when they have a physical book, and these books will target their specific learning needs while offering ample decoding practice.

Use of Funds:
This grant would allow us to purchase 6 different levels with 6 different titles, 10 books each. Each level costs $286.55, and shipping is 15% of the total. This would total 360 books. The total cost is $1,977.20.
