Project Description:
Megan Talbott, a 2nd-grade teacher at Basalt Elementary School in Basalt, CO, is seeking funding to provide decodable readers for take-home book bags to help her students practice phonics skills at home. Decodable readers are a critical resource for students learning to read by helping them systematically develop phonics and reading fluency. With 63% of her students being Hispanic/Latino and 42% being emerging bilinguals, these resources will be invaluable in supporting their literacy development. However, the current curriculum does not provide take-home resources, and many students lack the necessary practice at home. This project will supply decodable books for Megan's classroom, ensuring that students can continue building their reading skills outside of school.

Project Proposal:
The "Decodables for Take-Home Bags" project will allow Megan to purchase a variety of high-interest decodable books that align with the phonics skills her students are learning in school. These books will be sent home in take-home bags for daily reading practice, promoting fluency and comprehension. This initiative will benefit 84 students across five 2nd-grade classrooms at Basalt Elementary, helping all students, especially emerging bilinguals, to grow as readers. With access to engaging, level-appropriate books at home, students will develop strong reading foundations necessary for future academic success.
