Project Title: Two Classes Instead of One!
Category: Literacy
Amount Requested: $600
Principal: Ashley Johnston
School Website: southroutt.k12.co.us
Project Description:
This year, South Routt Elementary in Northwest Colorado has expanded to two 4th-grade classes instead of one, but there is only one set of textbooks to share between them. Both teachers are new to the district, with one being a first-year teacher. This grant will ensure that all students have equal access to critical math and history resources, particularly for the school's large number of low-income and English Language Learner (ELL) students. Without these textbooks, teachers would need to rely on piecemeal lesson plans and excessive photocopying, impacting students' learning experiences.
Project Proposal:
The requested funds will be used to purchase consumable math workbooks for every student, along with history textbooks. The math books are part of the Bridges curriculum and consist of three components: one for math fluency, one for independent problem-solving practice, and one for homework. The history book, titled Colorado Story, will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of state history, which is crucial to their academic growth.
Budget Narrative:
The project aims to purchase 17 main texts, 6 math fluency books, and 9 homework books for a total of $272.16. In addition, 15 Colorado Story history books will be purchased for $255. This brings the total cost to $530, plus shipping costs.
