Project Description:
Natalie Parkerson, an English teacher at Delta High School in Delta, CO, is passionate about helping her students discover a love for reading. Many of her 10th-grade students enter the classroom believing they dislike reading, simply because they have never been given a choice in what they read. By the end of the school year, students who participate in her book club find themselves engaged and excited to read once they can choose their books and discuss them with classmates. Since Delta High School does not have a library, Natalie is seeking funding to build a classroom book collection to continue fostering this enthusiasm for reading.
Project Proposal:
The goal of the "Book Club Library" project is to provide students with a wide variety of books they can choose from throughout the school year. With limited school funding, Natalie is looking for external support to give her students access to more reading materials that they will genuinely enjoy. The funds will be used to purchase books chosen by the students, and Natalie plans to create a "wish list" each quarter to gather student input and order books that align with their interests. This project will encourage a lifelong love of reading by empowering students to make their own reading choices.
Budget Narrative:
The funds will be used to order books that students choose, based on a wish list that is updated and ordered once per quarter. Depending on the funding amount, this will allow the classroom library to grow throughout the year and provide ongoing opportunities for students to read books they love.
