Category: Field Trips & Outdoor Learning

Funding Amount Requested: $1603

Project Description:
As part of the Outdoor Education experience, 48 sophomore students, along with 5 teachers and 1 adult volunteer, will be going on an adventure trip to Moab. The school population includes 47% of students who qualify for Free and Reduced Fees, 60% Latino, and 17% English Language Learners. Many of these students have never traveled to Moab or camped in the desert. The trip will include hiking in Arches National Park and floating down the Colorado River in kayaks.

Impact:
The funds will be used to provide all students with access to kayaks and personal flotation devices (PFDs) to ensure a safe river float. The group will be split into two and will rent 10 single-seat inflatable kayaks and 10 inflatable tandem kayaks, allowing them to run the river section twice.
