Project Title: Help Music be Heard
Category: Music, Journalism and the Arts
Funding Amount Requested: $2000
Project Description:
Tim Baird is requesting funds to help repair and maintain instruments in the band program at Ellicott Middle and High School. Many of the instruments require maintenance, such as woodwind re-padding, brass overhauls, and percussion head replacements. The funds will also be used to purchase additional instruments as the program grows and to buy sheet music and necessary supplies like reeds, oils, and greases. These improvements will allow more students to participate in the band, expanding their music education and helping them develop both soft skills like teamwork and critical thinking abilities.

Impact:
The repairs and additional instruments will enable more students to participate in the school's band program, creating a greater opportunity for them to engage in music education. Music education fosters important life skills like teamwork, critical thinking, and self-discipline. For many students, having access to instruments provided by the school is the only way they can participate, as purchasing their own instruments is not financially feasible.
Use of Funds:
The funds will be used for the following:
- Woodwind re-padding: $200-$400 per instrument
- Drum head replacements: $60-$100 per head
- Brass instrument repairs: $20 to several hundred dollars depending on the condition
- Purchase of small miscellaneous items like reeds, oils, and greases
Total requested: $2000.
