Project Title: X-country Skiing!
Category: Vocational & Physical Education
Amount Requested: $800
Principal: Kelly Martin
School Website: ges.egsd.org
Project Description:
Maggie Keller is requesting funds for a mobile, self-drying ski boot rack for her K-1 cross-country skiing program at Granby Elementary School. This Title 1 school serves a working-class population in a resort community, where many students only get to ski through PE classes due to socioeconomic limitations. A ski boot rack that holds 50 pairs of boots will ensure the equipment's longevity and help maximize ski time for students by improving organization and efficiency. The boot rack will be equipped with a fan for drying and mounted on wheels for easy storage and safety.
Project Proposal:
This project builds on the success of the cross-country skiing program Maggie has developed over the past 10 years. A similar rack was built for grades 2-5, and now funding is needed to provide the same support for kindergarten and first-grade students. By reducing the time it takes students to prepare for skiing, the rack will increase student engagement and improve the logistics of PE classes. The mobile design allows for easy transport between class periods and secure storage when the gym is being used by the community after school hours.
