Region: Southeast Colorado

Project Title: An Afternoon of Live Theater

Category: Field Trips & Outdoor Learning

Amount Requested: $1,944

Principal: Kathy Tucker

School Website: bigsandy100j.com

Project Description:
Big Sandy Elementary, located on the eastern plains of Colorado, serves PreK through 12th-grade students under one roof. Many of our students have never ventured beyond the town due to financial limitations, with over half of the elementary student population qualifying for free and reduced lunch. This grant would allow us to offer a rich cultural experience by taking all of our students to see a live theater production of "The Little Mermaid" at the Fine Arts Center in Colorado Springs. For many, this would be their first exposure to live theater, and we believe it would open doors to explore new career possibilities and inspire creativity.

Project Proposal:
Our rural location and the financial constraints of many of our families mean that our students rarely have the opportunity to experience events outside of the community. This grant would cover the cost of tickets for 150 students and 12 teachers to attend the performance. We hope this experience will have a lasting impact on our students by providing them with exposure to cultural opportunities and the performing arts, which could inspire their future endeavors. This field trip is not just an adventure but an important step in broadening their horizons and helping them explore new possibilities.

Budget Narrative:

$1,800 for 150 student tickets ($12 per ticket)
$144 for 12 teacher tickets ($12 per ticket)
