Caring to Remember is an annual benefit founded in 2015 by leaders in the NYC real estate industry in response to the immediate need to support those impacted by Alzheimer's disease and related dementia.
Over 11 million Americans are currently living with and caregiving for those with Alzheimer's and related dementias, and in New York City alone, over 1 million people have the disease and/or are caregiving for those with the disease. This past year alone, the estimated economic value of unpaid caregiving in the US was a staggering $600 billion and an average caregiver provides 18 hours of unpaid care per week.
To date, Caring to Remember has raised over $1.5 million to Change the World of Alzheimer's and Dementia. Our core belief is that our impact will lead to change, and while there is currently not a cure for Alzheimer's or related dementias, there are instrumental ways we can make a difference in the lives of those impacted.
This year, Caring to Remember will be supporting CaringKind and the Blue Zone Project in the Bronx. For over 45 years, CaringKind, a 501(c)(3) organization and 2023 recipient of the BOMA New York Civic Betterment Award, has been a recognized leader in Alzheimer's and related dementia care. CaringKind has pioneered new and innovative methods to individuals at risk for, or affected by, Alzheimer's Disease and dementia, and is partnering with Blues Zones to help increase longevity in the Bronx. A healthy life means a healthy mind:
- The Bronx has one of the highest rates of Alzheimer's Disease in the country, affecting 1 in 6 seniors.
- By implementing Blue Zone strategies and education that have effectively reduced rates of diabetes, heart disease, and high cholesterol - all of which are risk factors for Alzheimer's - we will support the well-being of our local community.
- The focus is to bring the Blue Zone initiative to the Bronx to help create a healthier future for all of New York.
Additional proceeds of Caring to Remember 2024 will go to the Alzheimer's Association for research in support of finding a cure for Alzheimer's and dementia and to UsAgainstAlzheimer's for their advocacy work and efforts towards Medicare reform.
