Title: "Maria Ressa"

Tim Anger: "Maria Ressa," Blackwell's, Oxford, 2023

Nobel Peace Prize winner and co-founder of the Manila-based news organization, Rappler, Maria Ressa has been described as a "pint-sized dictator slayer." In 2023, despite fighting multiple legal battles designed to silence her, Ressa published "How to Stand up to a Dictator." She traveled to the iconic Blackwell's bookshop in Oxford to talk about her experience. Before the event, moderated by ICFJ's Dr. Julie Posetti, Anger made several portraits of Ressa. Afterward, he noticed Ressa relaxing in an armchair, and he was able to capture a few intimate frames that bely her frenetic schedule and irrepressible energy.
