Lucia Fainzilber: "Somewear (Self-portrait)," Brooklyn, New York, 2014

"Somewear" is a series of self-portraits that struggle with the idea of identity. Photographer Lucia Fainzilber is normally behind the camera, but for this project she put herself in the picture. Nevertheless, she wanted her identity to be camouflaged, so she uses her attire to blend into each image. She has said the portraits allow each viewer to put themselves in the picture.

Lucia Fainzilber

Born in Buenos Aires in 1986, Lucia Fainzilber studied art direction at Universidad del Cine. She worked as a colorist in post-production before moving to New York to study at the International Center of Photography. Since 2014 she has been represented by Praxis Gallery. Her awards include: First Prize at the International Fine Art Photography Awards from the Paris College of Art, the Bronze Prize from the Prix de la Photographie and the Honorable Mention at the International Photography Awards. In 2021 and 2022, photos from her series "Somewear" sold out at Phillips auction house in the United Kingdom. In 2022, her installation "Untitled (The Female Gaze)" was shown at the Miami Design District, and in 2023 "The Cookbook" was exhibited at FIT in New York City and in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow, Poland.
