Title: "Jerry Hall"
Harry Benson: "Jerry Hall," New York, 1978
A stunning portrait of Jerry Hall, American model and actress, who began working in the 1970s and became one of the most sought-after models in the world. She was the longtime partner of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, with whom she has four children. Hall later married media magnate Rupert Murdoch, but the couple divorced in 2022. Photographer Harry Benson was under contract to Life magazine for three decades - from 1970 to 2000.
Harry Benson, CBE
Scottish-born photojournalist Harry Benson began his career on London's Fleet Street. He arrived in New York with the Beatles in 1964 and never looked back. While at LIFE magazine Benson photographed 13 U.S. presidents from Eisenhower to Biden; marched with Martin Luther King, Jr.; and was a few feet from Senator Robert Kennedy when he was assassinated. He photographed major world events, royalty, politics, celebrities, artists and musicians for magazines all over the world. In 2009 Benson was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II. He has also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Center of Photography, three honorary doctorates, three Overseas Press Club awards and two Leica Medals. Benson and his wife, Gigi, have produced 17 books. His photographs are in the permanent collection of major museums in London, Washington, and Edinburgh, and he has held more than 30 one-man shows. His most recent, "Harry Benson: Washington, DC," opened on Oct. 23, 2024, at The Gallery at Capital One Arena in Washington. The documentary "Harry Benson: Shoot First" is available on Netflix.
