Yari J Mena is a Mexican-American mixed-media artist whose roots in Georgia shape the narrative of her vibrant, layered creations. A graduate of Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Yari's work explores the dynamic interplay between abstraction, the figurative, and organic forms. Her recent works delve into the ethereal, illustrating memory as a tangible landscape. The painted photograph or print replaces a romanticized memory and stands as a revised reminder of the moment, navigating the delicate balance between control and chaos, mirroring the unpredictability of human nature, memories, and organic patterns found in nature. In 2023, Yari's solo show, "Nostalgic Varnishes / Barnices Nostalgicos" took place at the Hapeville Depot Museum. Recently recognized as a Distinguished Fellow at the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences and a Guest Faculty at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Yari continues her pursuit of expanding creative boundaries.
