Working in photography, video, and book art, Lydia A. Harris focuses on investigating what motivates us individually and as a society, tackling issues of inequality as it relates to power dynamics. She is currently working on an artist book based on Clare Estelle (Tally) Costello, her husband's grandmother, who was born in the town of Angier, North Carolina, located in the Black River Township of Harnett County. She was the daughter of James Lee Tally and Emma Lee Yancy, a descendant of a long line of tobacco farmers and slave owners. Her Collier Heights project, a 148- page artist book titled "The Passing of Collier Heights" has been completed winning the First Annual Graphic Arts Award and was short- listed for the Edition Lidu - Art Books Wanted International Award. She is currently working on creating a short non-fiction video about the project. In 2014, she was a Photolucida Critical Mass finalist, alternate for the Atlanta Photography Group's Portfolio Show, and Semifinalist, Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition 2016, National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution. Originally trained as a Microbiologist, she holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Maine and a Master's degree from the University of Maryland, receiving an MFA at the School at the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University, Boston along with a Museum Studies Certificate, and a Professional Certificate in Photography from Maine Media College.
