Michael Reese is an artist and educator whose work delves into the realms of identity and history. Drawing inspiration from both past and current photographic processes, he weaves together visual narratives that speak to the intricacies of the human experience. Driven by a fascination in cosmology and celestial science, he has created conceptual bridges between astronomy and the fight against human bondage. Reese explores several photographic alternative processes, with a particular focus on cyanotypes. Drawing inspiration from the rich history of this early photographic technique, dating back to the mid-19th century, Reese sought to push the boundaries and discover new ways to utilize cyanotypes in his artistic practice. Originally designed for creating blueprints, the cyanotype process involves coating a surface with a light-sensitive solution and exposing it to ultraviolet light, resulting in a distinctive blue hue. Fascinated by the historical significance of this technique, Reese skillfully employs the blueprint as a metaphor within his work, weaving layers of meaning and symbolism into each piece.
