INVEST IN THE NEXT GENERATION OF COMPOSERS AND MUSICIANS

The LACO Fellowship is a multi-year program that engages members of historically underrepresented groups in western classical music ensembles with work for hire and professional development opportunities.

The LACO Fellowship program is comprised of several weeks with LACO including orchestral services, chamber music coaching and concerts, a recital, mock auditions, lessons, and teaching artist opportunities with Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles.

Additionally, LACO Fellows lead the annual Freeways free community chamber concert at community recreation centers around Los Angeles as well as network with contractors, orchestrators, LA orchestras, and LACO musicians at Industry Night. LACO Fellows are compensated under the LACO CBA and are required to join the American Federation of Musicians (AFM).

The 2023-2025 LACO Fellows are:

  • flutist Alejandro Lombo, a Florida native who has earned degrees from The Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute of Music
  • oboist Eder Rivera, a native of Honduras who earned his master's degree at the Colburn Conservatory;
  • Colombian American violist Nicolas Valencia, who is pursuing his master's degree at the USC Thornton School of Music; and
  • double bassist Matthew Peralta, a New York native who earned his master's degree from the Yale School of Music. Peralta is a second-year fellow with Florida's New World Symphony.

In addition to their professional opportunities, LACO Fellows receive a minimum of $5,500 in compensation during each of their two years, as well as travel and housing expenses, professional audition and instrument repair support, and AFM (union) dues.
