The Hooded Figure by Harvey Gordon acrylic in masonite, 8 x 11.75 inches, 9.25 x 13 inches framed, 1972. Harvey Gordon was born in Flint, Michigan. He lives and works in Glen Arbor, Michigan, a small town on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. He studied art at the University of Michigan, the Cranbrook Art Academy (BFA), and the University of North Carolina (MFA). Gordon taught studio art and art appreciation at UNC, the University of Maryland, the Kalamazoo (MI) Institute of Art, and Glen Oaks Community College in Michigan, where he headed the Art Department. His writing on art and culture has appeared in Arts Magazine, American Artist, The Artist Magazine, The New Art Examiner, Modern Age, the Kalamazoo Gazette, and the correspondence sections of The New Yorker, Commentary, the New York Observer, the New Republic, the Weekly Standard, and The New Criterion. His works have been in many solo exhibitions. This piece was from an exhibition at Hirschl & Adler Galleries in New York City in 1972.
