Your party of 24 will enjoy an incredible meal from newly minted 2024 James Beard Emerging Chef Award Winner Masako Morishita of Perry's in Washington, DC.


Masako Morishita's path to becoming a James Beard Award winner was anything but ordinary. Born in Kobe, Japan, and growing up in the family restaurant business, Morishita moved to Washington, D.C. in 2013 to pursue her dream of becoming a professional cheerleader. She landed a spot on the Washington Commanders cheer squad, staying for five years and becoming the team's first captain from overseas.

After hanging up her pompoms, Morishita turned to cooking, inspired by the profound sense of place and warmth it evokes, as a way to share her heritage and culture. She channels that creativity, ushering in a new era at Perry's, the beloved D.C. institution. With a focus on Japanese comfort food presented in a modern and elevated style, it's no wonder that accolades have poured in, including being named Eater Chef of the Year in 2023, and in Plate Magazine's Chefs to Watch this year.

In addition to receiving a James Beard Award, Chef Masako also serves as a member of the US State Department Culinary Corps, a partnership with JBF, that sends chefs on diplomatic missions abroad.

Settle into the James Beard House, an elegant 1841 townhouse and the original home of James Beard himself, for a delicious and memorable Japanese meal with a culinary rising star.

Dinner to take place in 2025. Date and time to be coordinated with the winner and chef.

This dinner features sake pairings, per chef Masako's preference. Wines, spirits, and other beverages would be at winner's discretion.

NOTE: Beard House is not ADA compliant. Stairs to enter and dining room is on the 2nd floor.
