Artist Biography:

Dennis Crider has always had a camera in his hand, and as a child in Wichita, Kansas he just had to capture the moment on film. He took his first picture at the age of 4 during a family vacation in Yellowstone National Park and he has been snapping the shutter ever since.

Dennis was newspaper and yearbook photographer in both high school and college then spent 39 years as a general assignment reporter/head photographer/sports editor at The West Plains Daily Quill Newspaper in West Plains, Missouri, where he resides today.

On Oct. 19, 2023, he was the 77th person to be inducted into the Missouri Press Association Photojournalism Hall of Fame.

Today Dennis aims his camera at wildlife, landscapes and basically things that don't talk back. His travels are basically to western states with favorite subjects being bison, horses, wildflowers and mountain ranges.

He also photographs journeys of a genuine 1880s stagecoach that once worked in Arizona delivering mail, passengers and cargo. The crew of cowboys and cowgirls that ride with the coach deliver pen pal letters from Missouri children to those out west.

Dennis and the coach's owner, Cowboy Rick Hamby, have published one book showing highlights of a trip in the panhandle of Texas, and are currently working on another which features photos taken during the last journey along the Smoky Hill Trail in western Kansas. That run began at Mount Sunflower (the highest point in Kansas) to Monument Rocks.
