Display Piece -
A large piece of petrified wood, likely a pine that lived during the early Triassic period (250 million years ago) in what is today central Utah. This piece was laid down and preserved in the Chinle formation. Overtime, wet sediments filled with dissolved minerals such as silica and iron oxide replaced the wood's cellular structure and began to crystallize.

This museum-quality display piece required 40 hours of preservation and preparation. Its unique grain structure has been stabilized and contours have been ground to provide visibility into the ring structure left by the tree and to accentuate the interesting quartz crystalline pockets left by the petrification process.
