Medium: Encaustic on Supported Panel

Ginny Krueger is an abstract painter who derives inspiration from the land, and the beauty, complexity and interconnectivity of the natural world. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Northern Illinois University in 1995. She has received the Illinois Arts Council fellowship grant, and has been awarded numerous artist residencies-in Canada, Mexico, Scotland, Greece, Iceland, and Spain.

Ginny Krueger paints on wood panel using the encaustic medium; a mixture of beeswax, damar and pigment. The hot, liquid wax mixture is painted, then fused to the wood with a propane torch. Many layers are put down and fused atop the first. Sometimes she collages, sculpts, and scribes into the work. This medium suits her because it has a warm aroma, a lush, sensuous touch, and an unrivaled luster.

The land is the inspiration for her abstractions. As a child, she was fascinated with the wonders of the natural world that she experienced in her own backyard, in the forests of girl scout camp, and in the gardens of her grandparents. The earth and its bounty still lays claim on her.
