Picea rubens - The red spruce was made as closely as possible to scale and size of a living red spruce. As with the Blaschka flowers, I wanted to give the piece a feeling of aging and of life. Each time the piece travels and is displayed a few needles fall off and are placed under the branch. The same way needles would fall off a dying branch, giving the piece life through its delicate nature.
The branch was created and made at Pittsburgh Glass Center for the Lifeforms show. It has been displayed at the Hodge Gallery and Corning Museum Of Glass and was featured in New Glass Review. This piece was inspired by and made to pay tribute to Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka.
