American Girl Graal - Blown and coldworked glass

Micke Johansson is a master glassblower and designer from Sweden. When he was 16 years old, Johansson began working at Orrefors glassworks and stayed there for 15 years. He became a master glassblower at Orrefors at the age of 24. In 2004, Johansson started working at Pukeberg Glassworks where he could develop and produce his own art glass. In 2007, Johansson opened he own studio, Mickejohans Konstglas AB, where he produces all of his glass. His specialty is in old Swedish techniques like ariel, graal and Swedish overlay. Graal is a glassblowing technique that involves layering colored glass with transparent glass to create a smooth, decorative surface with internal designs. The process can take several days. After the glass is cold, techniques like cutting, sandblasting, or etching create a design in relief through the layers. The glass is then reheated blown into its final shape.
