Foundation Order of Malta Inc.

Foundation Order of Malta, Inc. stands as a beacon of hope and service, embodying the spirit of compassion and generosity that has guided the Knights and Dames of the Cuban Association of the Order of Malta for many years. Established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we are deeply rooted in a commitment to provide assistance to those most in need. Our work is a testament to the enduring charisms of the Order of Malta, whose rich history of voluntary service stretches back centuries, offering aid to the poor and suffering across the globe.

The hosts that are used in the consecration for the Eucharist in all the celebrations of the Eucharist throughout the eleven dioceses in Cuba are produced by the Mothers of the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel, an order of cloistered nuns, in their Santa Teresa convent located in La Habana, Cuba. The equipment with which the hosts are made were donated by the Cuban Association of the Order of Malta, shortly after the visit of Pope Saint John Paul II to Cuba.

Until recently, the nuns purchased the flour for the production of hosts pursuant to a quota established by the government, but as a consequence of the economic reality of the Island, the nuns have been unable to purchase sufficient quantities of flour, and they have asked for the support of the Order of Malta to maintain the presence of the Eucharist in Cuba.

Defense of the Faith (Tuitio Fidei) is one of the two charisms of the Order of Malta, and as was written by Pope Saint John Paul II, the Church draws her life from the Eucharist. And thus it is the obligation of the Cuban Association to do that which is necessary to assure that the Church in Cuba has what it needs to prevail.
