Weeklong Stay in a Private Portugal Retreat

Stay for up to 14 People in Comporta Cabana Property

Enjoy a week at a private retreat in one of the most sought-after vacation destinations in Portugal, an area known as Comporta. Portugal was Travel & Leisure magazine's Destination of the Year for 2016, and Comporta has been described as a "boho paradise" and "one of Europe's best kept secrets." Conde Nast Traveler has touted Comporta's "beach-shack vibe" and noted its popularity with "artists, A-listers and surfers."

The home is an easy drive of just over an hour south of Lisbon, and the area boasts nearly 50 kilometers of unspoiled beach lined with a few charming villages.

The home was built in 2016 in the traditional Alentejo style of detached, thatched-roof cabanas, with four separate buildings sighted above a pool. The main cabana houses the kitchen and living room, with a generous deck and fireplace outside. Other cabanas include the master bedroom with king size bed and bathroom, a children's cabana with two rooms of four twin beds each and a shared bathroom, and a guest cabana with two separate suites with queen beds and bathrooms. Each cabana has a deck in the front. Sleeps up to 14.

Next to the pool enjoy an outdoor kitchen with a wet bar, grill, and large dining table. Or on cooler evenings, relax and chat at the fire pit. The 23-acre property also has a table tennis pavilion and a garden with vegetables and fruits if in season. Other trees on the land include cork, olive, and stone pine, along with an array of other natural vegetation.

Homes in the area are sparse and typically on at least 15 acres. Relax in secluded privacy, or head to any of what are considered some of the best beach areas in Europe ten to twenty minutes away. Thoughtful planning in the area has prohibited most construction on the ocean front, so with the exception of a handful of beach restaurants, you will not see houses or buildings along the ocean, and certainly not the concrete high-rises that line many beaches in Europe. Excellent restaurants in the area offer fine Portuguese cuisine with an emphasis on locally-caught seafood. Area villages retain their native charm, but increasingly offer boutique clothing and home good stores, juice bars, yoga studios and charming cafes.

In just over an hour you can return to and explore Lisbon, a vibrant European gem, and it will take about 90 minutes to reach Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that boasts the Castelo dos Mouros ("Moorish Castle, dating back to the 8th and 9th centuries when the Moors controlled what is now Portugal), the Pena Palace, along with other sites. There are charming towns and areas to explore closer to the home as well.

Special Notes:
This is a private home. It was not built or furnished for the purpose of rental income.

A local cat has been hanging around the property. It is very friendly but does not belong to the owners and is not allowed inside (and cannot be let inside). Noted in case of allergies.

Due to the personal nature of the item, bids will only be accepted from individuals or families who are current or former members of the Youth Choral Theater of Chicago.

Typically NOT available from July through August each summer as the owners use the home then.
