KRISTAE PETERSON is a painter born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, living in Omaha, Nebraska. Believing that art evokes emotion through color, Peterson uses oil paint, oil sticks, livestock markers, fabric dye, and encaustic wax on canvas and wood. Her process is very tactile and intuitive. She received her BFA from the University of Nebraska Omaha, attended the Women's Art Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and owned and operated Avenue Gallery in historic Dundee, Omaha. She is a past owner of Avenue Gallery in historic Dundee in Omaha, Nebraska. She had a featured show at Bemis, "Nebraska Rising," in 2016. Peterson is in the following collections: Methodist Hospital, Creighton University, American Family Insurance, and Monroe Myer Institute.
"Encaustic wax gives me a sense of the unexpected. I feel like a chemist using a heat gun to melt Damar, Beeswax and Carnuba wax with my favorite oil paint colors. This work embodies nature, happiness, and serenity that I enjoy everyday."
