LISSA SCOTLAND explores nature, flowers, landscapes, and the "pretty" subjects. She questions, "what makes something beautiful?" Using layers of paint, Scotland creates depth within the piece, staying curious with her colors and marks. Her use of color is often bold and surprising. Born in 1978 in Omaha, Nebraska, Scotland grew up in the Midwest. She found painting to be a therapy for the crippling anxiety that had taken over her early years. Two decades of painting later, she now lives in Duluth, Minnesota where she has a home art studio. Scotland's resume includes several gallery shows within the Midwest. She has been a contributing artist to Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts for almost twenty years; her collectors include the Monroe Meyer Institute in Omaha, Nebraska and the Essentia Health Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota.
