STEVE JOY uses oil, acrylic, beeswax, varnishes, and gold leaf on wood panel. His recent paintings have been inspired by medieval icon painting and an attempt to bring the spirituality and humility of icon painting and its concepts into the twenty-first century using the history of Abstraction in America as a guiding force. Joy holds a MFA from Kyoto University of Arts, Japan and Chelsea School of Art, London. Joy taught in various countries from 1984 until 1998. He has also been a guest teacher at the following: Glasgow School of Art; University of Nebraska Omaha; Kragero School of Art, Norway. He is represented by Galerie Erich Storrer, Zurich, Switzerland; Minima Gallery, Mykonos, Greece; Velarde Gallery, Kingsbridge, England; and Anderson O'Brien Gallery, Omaha. Exhibitions include Serpentine Gallery, London; Ruth Siegel Gallery, New York City; Air Gallery, London; Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha; Bergen Art Museum, Norway; and Drammen Art Museum, Norway. He is based out of Omaha, Nebraska.
