MARICA JOFFE-BOUSKA's mixed-media "icon series" of relief sculptures began as a response to "Missouri River Transit" from the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Sculpture Project. What developed was a series of emblematic forms sharing common elements, repeating a similar vocabulary, creating an iconography of its own. Gradually the sculptures began to encompass and include other sources and references, expanding the motifs used. Joffe-Bouska works from a home studio in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She earned a BA degree in Art and Art Education from Clarke University (Dubuque, Iowa), and an MA degree in Studio Art (painting and drawing) from Northern Illinois University (DeKalb, Illinois). Her work is in public, private, and corporate collections. Locally her work can be seen at the Artists' Cooperative Gallery and Gallery Eppley. More info at www.marciajoffe-bouska.com.
