JEWELYA COFFEY (b. 1991, Searcy, Arkansas) is a multidisciplinary artist and educator who makes two- and three-dimensional work. Coffey was raised in Aurora, Missouri and currently lives in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her colorful, highly symbolic pieces play with themes of memory, grief, religion, rural life, growing up in the Ozarks, and exploring the god-haunted image. Pushing the boundaries of what a drawing can be, she hopes to capture the spirit of drawing across many mediums. She received her BFA from Harding University in graphic design and her MFA in painting and drawing from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her work has been most recently exhibited at Project Project, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, and Roberta and Bob Rogers Gallery in Omaha, NE, LUX Center for the Arts and Medici Gallery in Lincoln, Nebraska, Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas and sUgAr Gallery in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She is currently an Artist-in-Residence at the LUX Center for the Arts.
