A protector deity, Kirtimukha (zi-bag), is depicted in a central medallion design. Kirtimukha typically appears as a guardian of the threshold and is also known as the "face of glory." This antique 18th-century chest is also ornamented with cloud motifs, which in China symbolized the celestial realm and was eventually adapted into Tibetan art, as seen on this trunk.
