The central figure of this antique 18th-19th century chest is believed to be the Chinese monk Hvashang, who was the patron of the Sixteen Arhats. The various figures depicted represent happiness and longevity. The landscapes and dragons, borrowed from the Chinese tradition, have been transformed to fit a more Tibetan style and aesthetic.
