Wyland demonstrates his mastery of watercolor and Chinese brush painting with this sinuous depiction of an Octopus, one of the most fascinating and intelligent creates of the sea. Using techniques similar to calligraphy, Wyland captures the essence of the animal with deftly chosen details and shading. "Watercolor and Chinese brush painting seem as if they were created for marine life art," Wyland says. "The water and brush often tell me what the final result will be."
