We provide ...
- Support Groups for All Losses: Providing the griefHaven Methodâ„¢ gives all participants in support groups and private sessions the tools to know how to deal with their specific grief challenges and issues. With loving, effective, and educational guidance to those who have lost a child, spouse, sibling, parent, and others, groups are facilitated by specially-trained grief therapists and counselors.
- Website: Our website receives over 2,000,000 visits a year. Because everyone grieves differently and needs different types of support, our website is filled with educational information and loaded with hope. We regularly add new items to our ever-expanding site. People tell us they start every day by visiting our website to help them get motivated for the day.
- Videos: The production of educational videos on essential grief subjects is an important part of providing support. The section of our website that houses the Now You Knowâ„¢ videos and podcasts is one of the most highly visited.
- Sliding Scale Counseling: Private and Zoom support is provided on a sliding scale to those who aren't able to afford it.
- Packets of Hope: Our free Packet of Hope is considered by many to be a "lifesaver," especially those who have nowhere else to go for support. These packets are a compendium of specific information related to each person's loss. Thousands are sent out every year.
- Outreach: Our outreach program includes education and support given to first responders, medical facilities and staff, schools, LGBTQ+ headquarters, religious institutions, and many others impacted by loss. Also provided are professional speaking engagements by griefHaven specialists.

Who is griefHaven?
About griefHaven
Where Hope Resides
In 2002, Susan and Wendell Whitmore lost their only child, Erika, to a rare sinus cancer at the age of 32. As Susan looked for the "all-encompassing" type of grief support she needed, she was surprised it was nowhere to be found. That is when griefHaven was born. Susan started griefHaven initially to provide grief support to parents who lost a child. But the need for griefHaven's services was apparent, and griefHaven grew to provide grief support for all losses.
Since 2003, griefHaven has provided unique and specialized resources to support those with loss: support groups; specific grief tools; scientifically proven methods that work with the grieving brain and body; educational information to understand grief; and essential guidance in self-care.
Our website, griefHaven.org, is easily accessed by anyone and is filled with a variety of approaches to dealing with loss. Also, griefHaven provides speakers for conferences, educational presentations to those working in the grief arena, and outreach to communities and community-based organizations impacted by loss.
As of 2024, griefHaven celebrates its 21st year. Our griefHaven.org website receives over 2,000,000 visits a year! Offering a safe and compassionate environment for anyone in need, griefHaven has helped hundreds of thousands of people throughout the United States and the world.
Together we can make the world one that is
more compassionate, understanding, and hopeful for those
who find themselves on the long and difficult path of grief.
griefHaven is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing effective grief support
