*EXECUTIVE SILENT AUCTION*

Hard Hat Tour of California Science Center's Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center Construction Site - The Future Home of Space Shuttle Endeavour!

Join us for an insider's look at one of the most awe-inspiring educational projects in Southern California. Construction is underway on the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, a 200,000 square-foot expansion to the California Science Center that will double our exhibition space with the addition of three major galleries - Aviation, Space, and Shuttle - featuring 100 hands-on exhibits integrated with 100 artifacts, including a stellar collection of aircraft and spacecraft.

In early 2024, Space Shuttle Endeavour was lifted to vertical position at the construction site and mated to its External Tank and Solid Rocket Boosters, completing the complex, six-month process to assemble last remaining space shuttle system with authentic flight hardware. This is only time such a feat has been accomplished outside of a NASA or Air Force facility.

Your party of 4 will receive a project briefing including details about the shuttle stacking and plans for the future Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center. Then it's on to the construction site for a hard had tour of this awe-inspiring work in progress, where you'll be joined by an out-of-this-world guide - former NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman, whose first flight to space was aboard Endeavour during mission STS-123.

Package also includes a complimentary one-year family Explorer Membership to the California Science Center; and a copy of the three-volume book, "Space Shuttle: Developing an Icon 1972-2013" signed by the author.

  • The opportunity expires on May 31, 2024.
  • The tour is limited to 4 guests aged 18 or older; no minors are allowed on the construction site.
  • Tour to be arranged on a mutually convenient weekday afternoon with 1 weeks' notice required for scheduling.
  • Closed-toe, hard-sole shoes, and long pants are required to access the construction site (i.e., sneakers not permitted, and legs must be covered); personal protective equipment (hard hat and safety vest) will be provided and must be worn at all times.
  • Guests may be required to sign a liability waiver.
  • Garrett Reisman's participation is subject to availability and is not guaranteed.
  • Space Shuttle Endeavour is in the process of being covered and protected for the balance of construction and may not be visible on the scheduled tour date.
