The MISSION of the Cosmoshere is to "Inspire the future through space exploration".

In 2012, Cosmosphere leadership looked to the future with leading-edge education programming and updating its museum to be more engaging. Over the next ten years, more than $7 million was invested in the building.

The emphasis on education and engaging younger audiences in STEAM and space history was reinforced with a complete remodel of the education and camp area in 2018 including the addition of a second level in the rotunda to expand programming. In 2020 an interactive STEAM area for children called CosmoKids opened.
