Rob Amberg is a North Carolina photographer, folklorist, and chronicler whose work focuses primarily on the social life and customs of the rural South, especially in the mountains of his home state of North Carolina. Amberg's masterful documentary photography is well-represented in the Asheville Art Museum's Collection, and several of his artworks are currently on view in the exhibition Shifting Perceptions. Amberg's photographs and texts have been exhibited and published nationally and internationally in journals, magazines, galleries, and museums. He is the recipient of fellowships and awards from numerous organizations, including: the National Endowment for the Humanities; the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation; the Center for Documentary Studies; and the National Endowment for the Arts.
