Kandis Susol, Heart River, no date, Encaustic sculpture/artist-made rag paper, 20" x 20" x 5". Winston Wachter Fine Art
Kandis Susol's encaustic paper sculptures engage with the inherent complexity of all of life's imperfections. Each unique, artist-made sheet creates a dialogue with the next, both highlighting and obscuring certain inconsistencies while flowing together as a cohesive unit. These differences inform our own placement in the world. Taken together, the wax-coated papers ripple and dance with a tension that fluctuates with every new perspective. Susol has studied fiber arts, paper making and encaustics throughout her career. She has exhibited at the Bellevue Arts Museum and the San Juan Islands Museum of Art, as well as numerous exhibitions throughout the Northwest.
Drie Chapek, Organized Flow, 2022, Oil paint on canvas, 30" x 40" I.e. gallery
Drie traveled with long views through the air and across the land to several homes spread across five states during each year of my childhood. She experienced different caretakers, environments, and cultures. Drie searched for solid ground in that motion and found common threads in the earth we inhabit and the humanity we share. Our differences are vast but our connections and similarities are as well.
