A VERY SPECIAL ART AND WINE WEEKEND IN WALLA WALLA WASHINGTON
A rare opportunity to experience how contemporary art and wine are really made. 4 people - September 19, 20 and 21, 2024.
This trip is for 4 people - September 19, 20 and 21, 2024.
Thursday September 19th:
Settle into the magical Howard Street Haven in Walla Walla. Bring your swimsuit as there is a heated swimming pool and hot tub to indulge your body in before you partake in two magical days of art and wine! Dinner will be fun to cook on the BBQ or enjoy one of Walla Walla's wonderful restaurants.
Friday September 20th:
Artist Squire Broel has arranged for you to enjoy a private visit to the Walla Walla Foundry where you'll get a behind-the-scenes view of one of the world's preeminent art production facilities. They have produced some of the largest and most complex contemporary bronze sculptures in the world including works by artists Yayoi Kusama, Maya Lin, Urs Fischer, Deborah Butterfield, Jim Dine and your host Squire Broel.
This walking tour will take you from start to finish through the casting process and will include some sneak peeks at current projects.
After your visit to the foundry you will enjoy a light lunch paired with local wines in Squire Broel's light-filled loft studio located in historic Downtown Walla Walla.
In Broel's studio you'll learn about his creative process and see a curated selection of works spanning three decades of his career as a painter and sculptor. This up close and personal experience will also allow you to be in close proximity with works in progress.
Squire Broel constructs objects that are essential counterpoints to the frenetic nature of contemporary culture. As a sculptor and painter Broel intentionally creates scenarios that are at once spare and introspective, yet also generous and universal. His work reflects a genuine search for the essential and offers a unique commentary on contemporary themes.
Friday night dinner will be at TMACS, a small, elegant bistro featuring locally sourced produce and meats, located in downtown Walla Walla. TMACS is a true gem. The brainchild of third-generation Walla Walla native Tom Maccarone.
Saturday September 21st:
Join winemaker extraordinaire David Stephenson and visit vineyards in the valley tasting wines that are specific to the block you are standing in. Connecting the vines with the wines is a pretty eye-opening experience. Dave will explain the terroir and winemaking choices that you are tasting. There will be Charcuterie to nibble on while tasting these extraordinary wines.
You'll start your wine adventure in Walla Walla at Otis Kenyon Wine tasting room for a delightful beginning. Then move to the fascinating Rotie Vineyard in Milton-Freewater to learn how the terroir influences their wines. Next will be a visit to one of the highest elevation vineyards in the valley: Summitview Vineyard where you'll experience breathtaking views over the Valley while learning about the amazing wines from this vineyard.
Your final stop will be at Kinhaven Winery and Estate Vineyard to learn about their special wines. You will be hosted with a tasting and tour of their facility.
Returning to your lodging where you will be treated to a special multi course dinner prepared by two amazing chefs, Ellen Stephenson and Brendon Grugnale. Those who have hosted you on your Walla Walla Experience will join you to dine. A fun evening to discuss the information learned, ask questions and sip those special wines!
