Join artists, Rik Allen and Shelley Muzylowski for a one of a kind glass-blowing experience in their private studio. Up to four people will learn the basics of glass-blowing, try their hand at this mesmerizing art form, and get an inside look at art and lives of two renowned multimedia artists.

In 2005, Rik and Shelley established a glass and sculpture studio with her husband, artist Rik Allen at their property in Skagit County. In addition to being artists, Shelley and Rik and have taught internationally at the Toyama Institute of Glass in Japan, Nuutajarvii Lasikyla, Finland and the International Glass Festival in Stourbridge, England. They have also taught at the Penland School of Craft, Pittsburgh Glass Center, and at the world famous, Pilchuck Glass School, founded by Dale Chihuly.

Rik's current series of work has been in the form of spacecraft, rockets, and scientific apparatus. While many of Rik's pieces have a reference to his curiosity for science, they also convey humor, simple narratives, and a lightheartedness that is embodied in much of science fiction's antiquated vision of the future. The couple together have recently installed 2 large scale bronze public sculptures in the city of Bellevue WA.

In her work, Shelley seeks to unfuse glass with a painterly quality by layering color to add depth to the sculpture being made. By suspending figures in moments of tension, recalling myths and legends through animal forms, Shelley hopes to convey a place that different species have occupied over time. As symbols and icons of eras and cultures around the world, she finds it important to capture the inherent nature of these creatures in her work, reflecting not just her own insights but inspiring an emotional experience and connection in the viewer.

Mutually agreeable date. Valid until May 2025.
