Pieter VanZanden and Todd Horton, Sperm Whale Colab, 2024, Triple print, ink on paper, 12" x 15"

Pieter VanZanden, a Northwest modern-garbage artist who works primarily in sculpture is driven by his experiences growing up on Whidbey Island in the Salish Sea, fishing, hiking, biking, and making driftwood forts and rafts. VanZanden's work is influenced by the changes in the environment caused by technology, pollution, and government control. Todd Horton works full time as an artist on his floating studio, creating work from a sense of place, where life lived and art made are one and the same. Topographia Index Project: Collaborating with trees in which Todd creates an installation in the forest of rope, pulleys and charcoal attached to the trees. As the trees respond to the changing weather they activate the drawing device transcribing their dreams.
